F3: Online Distributive On-Demand Continuing Education
This is the most common type of CE you’ll find on the Internet. These are individual courses that are accessible via websites, like CE Solutions, that provide CE hours after you’ve successfully passed an exam at the conclusion of the course. These courses can be written, audio, or video.

F5: Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT) Continuing Education
VILT continuing education courses are held on the Internet in a webinar-style environment. You are attending a course in real-time with an instructor at a scheduled time. Courses contain interactive polling questions which must be answered to show your proof of attendance. There is a chat feature as well to interact with other attendees and ask questions throughout the class, share stories, and elaborate on learning objectives.

CE Solutions offer F3 Distributive On-Demand and F5 Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT).

F1 indicates a one-time, live event such as an annual conference.
F2 indicates a live event offered multiple times such as an ACLS course.
F3 indicates a distributed On-Demand learning activity such as a course offered online or via video.
F5 indicates Virtual Instructor Led Training (VILT).

As of July 1, 2019, All California EMTs are required to complete a one-time mandatory training for Epinephrine Auto Injector, Naloxone, and Glucometer Usage.  A Completion Certificate for this training must be sent in with the re-cert application. CE Solutions offers an Epinephrine Auto Injector, Naloxone, and Glucometer Usage course which can be purchased as a stand alone course for $35.

California does not have any other specific topics, however you should utilize continuing education that is specific to your certification. For example, if you are renewing your EMS certification, you should use EMS CE only. Do not attempt to use Fire, Hazmat or Risk Management CE to renew your EMS certification.

California accepts CE Solutions’ continuing education program and CE Solutions is a California CE Provider #94-4601. You may obtain your continuing education and recertify using CE Solutions.

Some counties in California are only accepting 8 CEUs per day. It is your responsibility to determine how many hours you are actually allowed.

You can use any EMS topic as an elective. For example, if you are required to obtain 12 CEUs of trauma, any CEUs above and beyond the 12 CEUs of trauma you earn will be counted as electives. Please choose any EMS topic from any EMS category to earn additional EMS elective CEUs.

The unlimited program allows you unlimited access to the program for your subscription period. You may obtain up to 12 CEUs per 24 hour period.

Most licensing authorities accept up to 12 hours CEUs per 24 hour period, however some counties in California are only accepting 8 CEUs per day. It is your responsibility to determine how many hours you are actually allowed.

You are allowed to earn up to 12 CEUs per 24-hour period. Most state, local and national licensing entities will accept a maximum of 12 credits hours per day, however some counties in California are only accepting 8 CEUs per day. It is your responsibility to determine how many hours you are actually allowed.

For your protection, our system is designed to prevent you from earning more than the allowed 12 CEUs per day.

Keep in mind that each licensing entity has its own rules and regulations and the CEU limitation will vary from entity to entity.

Most states require that you submit an application for renewal and require your signature certifying that you do in fact have proof of CE documentation.

You will receive your certificates immediately via your online history file. The certificates are stored online so you will have access to printing a copy anytime.

Every certificate you receive is stored in your history file and may be accessed by clicking on the “Reports” menu item and then selecting “History”.

Generate a report dependent on your date range or filters and then click on the View/Print link to display a print ready copy of your certificate. All you need to do then is print the page as you would print any other webpage.

In order for the history page to display correctly, please verify you have the date range set correctly. The history page will not display any courses taken outside of the date range you have set.

You can review the material and re-take the exam after a 1 hour waiting period.

You may stop and leave the program at anytime. Your score for the exam will not be logged until you click on the grade exam button.

You may retake any CEU module after 12 months of successfully passing the module. Your course library will automatically update the date passed when you successfully retake the module. You should only use a CEU module once per recertification cycle.

The exam clock is based on a true 24 hour rotation cycle. For example, If you took 12 CEUs yesterday and the first CEU you earned was at 5PM, you must wait until 5PM today to take the next exam.

Think of it as a “24-hour Merry-Go-Round” with only 12 seats. Every time a CEU is earned, a seat is occupied for 24 hours by that CEU.

After being on the amusement ride for 24 hours the CEU must leave and therefore a seat becomes available for the next exam.

Yes, Most states require participants to spend a minimum amount of time on each CE course before being allowed to receive credit. To comply with this requirement, we (and all other online CE providers) are required to place timers on each course. We realize that some students may read faster than the timer will permit you to advance, but regulations prohibit us from changing this function.

Failing to participate fully in the course is not only doing a disservice to you, but it could also be harming those who depend upon you.

Exams for the live courses are available 30 minutes after the end of each course and the exams for the distributive education are ready immediately after spending the required time on the course content.

You have up to 21 days to pass the live or self-paced on-demand exam. After 21 days, you must re-attend the course in order to take the exam.

CE Solutions currently offers both, Awareness Level Hazmat and Hazardous Materials Technician Level CEUs.

Anyone holding a Hazardous Materials Technician certification must obtain eight hours of technician-level CE each year.

In order for the history page or progress monitor to display correctly please verify you have the date range set correctly. The history page and progress monitor will not display any courses taken outside of the date range you have set.

After setting the correct dates, you will need to enter the correct amount of CEUs in each category that you wish to track.

The final step is to save your information by selecting “Save Settings” near the bottom of the page.

What you are looking at is the course library, which may change, as courses are revised or deleted.

For example, from the time you passed a certain course until today, that course may have been revised and issued a new course ID number.

The area that you should be looking at is your history, as it will not change once you have completed a course.

Unlimited immediate 24/7 access to our the general Fire and EMS Self-Paced On-Demand F3 course library including mobile access. Printable and downloadable lectures or download and listen in podcast format. Complete access to entire CEU history, receive certificates immediatly after successfully passing each course and our “Top-Shelf” Member Support.

The 1 Year 24 CEU Program allows you access to 24 CEU credits for up to 1 year. Your account will expire when you receive 24 CEU credits OR at the end of 1 year, whichever situation comes first. If you need more than 24 CEU credits you should choose the unlimited program.

All subscriptions other than the 2 Year Unlimited Program allow you access for up to 1 year OR until you have completed all the topics in the specific library.

If you have purchased a 1 Year 24 CEU Program your account will expire when you receive 24 CEU credits OR at the end of 1 year, whichever situation comes first.

Each CE course varies in the amount of credit awarded and is equal to clock time. For example,  two CE’s equals two hours clock time.  All CE courses utilize a timer to ensure the student is spending the allotted time before receiving credit.

Failing to participate fully in the course is not only doing a disservice to you, but it could also be harming those who depend upon you.

Most states require participants to spend a minimum amount of time on each CE course before being allowed to receive credit. To comply with this requirement, we (and all other online CE providers) are required to place attendance timers on each course. We realize that some students may read faster than the timer will permit you to advance, but regulations prohibit us from changing this function.

The course timer counts down when the course page is open and in focus. The timer will pause if you navigate away from the course page and will resume when you return to the course page. The timer only works when a single course open. The timer will pause if your phone or computer goes into standby or sleep mode.

Circumstances that may cause the timer to pause:
  1. More than one course/browser open. For the timer to count down, you must be on the course page the entire required time. You must have only one course open at a time. If you open more than one, the timer stops for both.
  2. Inactivity-the page cannot sit idle or go into sleep mode. If listening to the podcast, your screen must remain active. If on a cell phone, your device cannot go into sleep mode. All of these instances will cause the timer to pause.
  3. Loss of internet connectivity.
Suggestions to try:
  1. Open a single course and keep that tab in focus.
  2. Make sure cookies is enabled.
  3. Try a different browser or devices. We suggest Chrome.

If you still have difficulty, please send us a message through your student area. When writing to us, please tell us what device you are using, what browser, and if you are using the podcast so we can try to re-create your issue.

Keep in mind that we will attempt to duplicate your issue, but if the issue is not on our end, we cannot troubleshoot your personal device.

Summary

The timer will pause if you navigate away from the course page and will resume when you return to the course page.

    Fire CE FAQs

    Texas:

You must complete a minimum of 20 hours of fire level 1 or level 2 continuing education or a combination of the two levels to renew your TCFP certification.
    Additionally:

    • If you have a Wildland certificate, you must complete four hours of wildland-specific CE. The four hours can be counted toward your minimum 20-hour requirement.
    • If you have a Hazmat Technician certificate, you must complete an additional eight hours of Hazmat Technician Level CE, for a total of 28 hours.

    Ohio:

54 CE hours – Continuing education training shall be related to the fire service and approved by the applicant’s fire chief or program director of a chartered program. https://www.ems.ohio.gov/links/ems_CErequirementsFire.pdf

Anyone holding a Hazardous Materials Technician certification must obtain eight hours of technician-level CE each year in addition to the 20 hours of CE requirement.

If you are audited, you must provide documentation of a minimum 20 hours of CE. These hours may be completed in either level 1 or 2 training, or a combination of the two types.

There are two types of continuing education. Individual certificate holders can document either “Level 1,” “Level 2” or a combination of the two.

    • “Level 1” is training that repeats course material from the basic curriculum in which you hold your certification. The commission only allow four hours of “Level 1” training in any one subject, so you would have to document a minimum of five subjects. (Fire departments that provide this kind of training can issue you a Form TCFP-010, Continuing Education Documentation Form or a “certificate of completion” to help you document your hours.) Copies of “certificates of completion” from websites or certified training facilities are also acceptable. The “certificate of completion” must have the name and signature of the commission-certified instructor who taught the class. Keep your documentation! You will NOT submit your documentation when you renew, but the commission may ask you to provide the documentation at any time.

Please refer to the appropriate chapter of the Certification Curriculum Manual to find the list of Level 1 subjects for the certification(s) you hold.

    • “Level 2” is training to develop new skills. Examples of “Level 2” training are National Fire Academy (NFA) courses, fire service-related seminars, or college courses in fire science. Keep copies of any “certificates of completion” you receive from these courses to document your “Level 2” training. (Copies of official college transcripts are acceptable documentation of college courses in fire science.)

    Paid Renewal

If you are employed by a commission regulated entity, your employer is responsible for your renewal. Your department will keep your continuing education records and pay your renewal fees.

    Individual Renewal

If you are not employed by a regulated entity, you are responsible for documenting your CE and paying your renewal fees. Do NOT send the TCFP your CE records. Keep your CE documentation on file and be prepared to submit it to TCFP when you are audited via e-mail during the year (up to three years following renewal).

If your certificate has been expired for less than one year, you can renew it by logging into FIDO and paying any applicable fees. Remember to keep your CE documentation, as it may be subject to a commission audit.

How long do I have until I cannot renew my certification?

If your certificate remains expired for one year or longer, you will have to re-test before you can re-apply for certification. Please contact the commission’s testing section at (512) 936-3811 for more information on retesting.

If you were “called up” or “activated to military service” during the renewal period, you can renew your certificate even if it has been expired for more than one year. We will require you to submit a copy of your activation orders along with one renewal fee. Please contact the certification section at (512) 936-3828 for assistance.

A minimum of twenty hours of continuing education in addition to the continuing education requirements in §441.5 (relating to Requirements) will be required for personnel certified as head of a fire department and who are appointed as head of a department.

The twenty hours of Head of Department continuing education shall include:

    1. Ten hours in emergency operations subjects; and
    2. Ten hours in fire administration subjects. These subjects may include emergency management, leadership, budget and finance, labor relations, human resources and personnel management, collective bargaining, conflict resolution, organizational and strategic planning, community relations and public education, intergovernmental relations, and personnel health, safety and wellness.
